About Me:

Hi everyone! My name is Samantha Pate and I am a Secondary Education major at The University of South Alabama. My main reasons for teaching are: I love seeing individuals succeed in life, therefore I am certain I will assist in the success of my future students. I also love sports and athletics. After I become a teacher, I hope to be involved in the athletic department and eventually become a coach. I would love to coach tennis or the cheer squad...two things I know a lot about. I hope you enjoy my blog. I will be experimenting with new web and networking sites to help increase my knowledge of technology to better my teaching skills in the future.

My Teaching Philosophy

My personal goals and values will play a main role in my future teaching environment. It is of the up most importance that I keep these values in my life and career. By enforcing these values in my life, I hope to receive respect and commitment from my future students. I will also offer values such as: respect, leadership and time management to my students and fellow co-workers. I believe if I start out with a positive attitude and high expectations, it will “rub off” on fellow teachers and help the students to be driven. I believe that positive attitudes make leaders, which we need from our students. I also believe that having high expectations bring respect. In my own experience, I have developed a tremendous amount of respect for my professors who have the highest expectations of me. As an educator, my students will be my main priority. I know that I will have certain restrictions; however I know I will have a chance to change a life for the better. It is my job to make sure each child has a comfortable, yet strict and monitored educational experience to prepare them for the future.

Relating to the Real World…

Throughout my life, I have always questioned my educators. I never thought I would use my assignments in the real world. I was always wondering the purpose of what we were being taught. As a future educator I know that I will have to stick with a specific curriculum, therefore it is my duty to find ways to help my students relate to these assignments. They will need to be taught the curriculum as well as real world issues. As a teacher, I will incorporate real life experience with the lesson. In a history class, I can highlight the events that may happen to the student in real life. Serving time in prison, fighting, or being injured are just a few examples. I want my students to be able to give real life experiences and share what they experience away from school.

Movies and More

A great thing about having a class blog is the movies and videos!! When it is time for my students to present projects or speeches, we will video the students and place these on our class blog. This will give our entire school a way to meet the each student in my class and match names with faces. This will also give students a way to branch out and become more outgoing and enhance their public speaking skills. Developing these videos for my students will give them practice if we are able to Skype a different school or region.

Parental Participation

In my future teaching career getting the parents involved is going to be one of my many challenges. At the beginning of each year I will make a great attempt to meet each parent or guardian. If meeting a parent or guardian becomes a difficult task due to certain circumstances, I will attempt to follow up with emails and letters to inform them with helpful information. I feel that a parents participation in the students school life is a very important asset and requires dedication from both teachers and parents. Students are more likely to succeed in class when parents are aware and up to date on their current studies. I will also encourage the parents to be involved in the students after school circular activities.

My Classroom Blog

I am extremely excited to have my very own classroom blog. Having my own classroom blog will give my students a way to communicate with myself and other classmates. This will ensure that my students never miss an assignment or quiz and will give my students the freedom to follow instructions that I post for them much like I have learned from Dr. Strange in my EDM 310 class. This class has given me so many reason to continue learning to be Technologically Literate. I know that teaching my students how to blog will help them learn to communicate in the real world and teach them how to organize their studies. I also want my students to have their own PLN before they leave my class. This will help them in their technology journey.

High Expectations

High Expectations is key. I believe every child should be pushed to do and achieve their very best. It is very important to enforce these expectations as a child. Many students do not receive discipline at home, therefore I feel it is necessary to enforce these expectations in the classroom. Each child will be different, therefore they must be treated differently in some ways. This does not mean the best is not expected from each child. I want my students to know that every child is given different gifts and talents. It is up to educators to help students find what they are looking for and where they belong. By encouraging my students and expecting great things from them, I hope that hold on to their dreams or whatever they choose to be in life.
